Event planning
Compared to wood, bamboo presents higher design and processing challenges that need to be overcome due to its irregular, non-homogeneous, and hollow characteristics. For this reason, the emerging architects participating in the "2021 Bamboo Forest Railway Emerging Exhibition" not only took part in a bamboo construction co-learning workshop this February to understand bamboo's properties, high-temperature baking processes, and bending methods, but also held numerous discussions and revisions with curator Chen Kuan-fan regarding technical issues such as the "weather resistance" and "durability" of the structures. Finally, utilizing the warmth and elasticity of bamboo material, they successfully extended the memories of a bygone era into a new-generation landscape stretching from Taiwan to the international stage.
This "Bamboo Journey" guided tour project will be led by Chen Kuan-fan, curator of the "2021 Taiwan Wood and Bamboo Exhibition: New Generation Bamboo Architecture," and designer Chen Yu-wen, author of "Tunnel of Light" and "From Bamboo to Bamboo House." They will guide participants in experiencing how four bamboo structures blend traditional spirit with modern thinking, aiming to expand the imaginative applications of locally produced bamboo materials.
Time-Collecting Tunnel — Designer Chen Yu-Wen
Traveling through the tunnel of intertwined light and shadow, images of the past when railway tracks transported wood gradually emerge. Travelers pick up those lost good times of the past, and historical fragments once left behind are picked up anew—designer Chen Yu-wen uses three types of arches to jointly weave the stable structure of "Tunnel of Retrospected Time," creating light and shadow resembling railway tracks, evoking the prosperity of the past. Using everyday materials and new construction methods, she looks forward to the regeneration of industries that are friendly to the land.

Realm of Elves: Bamboo Mango Teahouse —— Designer Fang Hsin-Chiao
A dimly visible, quiet bamboo tea house stands on a small hill, like a Taiwanese native mango fallen into the embrace of the earth—designer Fang Hsin-qiao sits in the tree shade of the "Realm of Elves: Bamboo Mango Tea House," constructed of bamboo in the brightly lit lumber mill plaza. Feeling the cool and pleasant breeze and brewing a cup of Chiayi mountain oolong tea, the realm of elves naturally exists between the inside and the outside.

Fluttering - Architect Wang Zhe
Taiwan has abundant butterfly resources, with Alishan's 194 species accounting for nearly half of the island's total. Architect Wang Che transformed the imagery of fluttering butterflies into abstract space, using bamboo tectonic sheet units of three scales to shape a unified space and structure—"Fluttering." This layered, fluttering trellis featuring multiple patios provides a space for people to rest, stay, observe, and play, while also expressing the possibilities of the application and appearance of bamboo structures.

Chu Lin - Architect Yu-Hsin Yeh
"Fishing with a bamboo pole at Kitakanasai while seizing the mild clear weather; the cypress logs lying across the stream are right before my eyes." In the past, the timber storage ponds of sawmills were also living spaces for local residents, representing the collective memory of the lumber industry. Here, Architect Yeh Yu-hsin has inserted a space for resting, gazing, and contemplating titled *Bamboo Ripples* (*Zhu Lin*). By continuing the curved state of bamboo like shimmering ripples, this continuous resonance engages in a dialogue with the space-time of the site, allowing wind, light, and tree shadows to dwell within it and merge with the viewer's most primal perception.
