Taiwan Bamboo · Trend: Chengyi Cultural Travel x Taiwan Bamboo Association 2021 “Building Bamboo Forest Railways” Promotion Project

Chiayi was once the hidden champion of many bamboo export industries in Taiwan. For example, the period from the 1960s to the 1990s was the heyday of bamboo basket exports from Tianshe, Chiayi. "Whenever a large ship was about to leave port, hundreds of people in the small village of Tianshe would work together to make bamboo baskets, with a long line of trucks waiting nearby, ready to use the bamboo baskets to transport Taiwan's fruits and vegetables to Hong Kong, Macau, and Singapore." In addition, Chiayi City is one of Taiwan's four major hubs for traditional bamboo pipe-boring technology. Both Chiayi and Zhongpu were once major factories for Taiwan's early export of bamboo furniture abroad, and the largest bamboo charcoal industry was also located in the Chiayi region.

"Talking about Taiwan's bamboo industry cannot be limited to Zhushan or Tainan." To revive the glory of Chiayi's bamboo industry, Taiwan Bamboo Society will join hands with Hotelday Chiayi to present the nearly three-month-long event "Taiwan Bamboo: Tide." Travelers visiting Chiayi can not only sign up for a bamboo architecture walking tour personally guided by the curator of the "2021 Bamboo Forest Railway New Generation Exhibition" and taste bamboo snacks, but also visit the specially created series of art rooms featuring nine Taiwanese bamboo artisan brands specially invited by Taiwan Bamboo Society. This allows the public to personally experience contemporary bamboo lifestyle goods designed and produced using native Taiwanese bamboo by a new generation of Taiwanese designers, such as bamboo cups, bamboo toothbrushes, bamboo desk lamps, and bamboo carved and dyed paintings.Yuantai Bamboo Handicraft, which successfully transitioned from a knitting needle factory into a bestselling brand of bamboo cups and bamboo toothbrushes across various channels with saturated, bright colors and a refreshing design;Shanjie Bamboo Craft, which excels at presenting the most charming angles, grid patterns, and light and shadows of bamboo through precise bamboo weaving; and [Name], who loves to present bamboo ware through simple, cross-media designsSoft, clean, yet richly contemporaryEssence Workshop. In addition, smoked bamboo blinds and the elegant bamboo bolster known as the "bamboo wife" add the unique fragrance of bambooware to the art room. This is designed to let travelers visiting Chiayi experience the charm of bamboo firsthand through the five senses of sight, hearing, smell, touch, and taste.

Yuan Tai Bamboo Workshop

Transitioning from a knitting needle factory, Yuan-Tai Bamboo Craft revitalized the lathe technology of the past bamboo industry with saturated, bright colors and fresh designs. They have made bamboo the contemporary best companion for the dining table and the bathroom, allowing us to see a clean future to be left for our children within the bamboo fibers, which—even if one of them is lost—will become nourishment for the earth.

Shanjiehao Bamboo Crafts

Take out the protractor and ruler, measure the woven bamboo ware, and ensure that every grid is neat and consistent. Lin Shan of Shanjie Bamboo Craft is deeply attracted by the charm of bamboo weaving's interplay of light and shadow. Every technique of bamboo weaving leaves holes. Under the illumination of a light source, whether the starlike specks of light and shadow present a sense of order is where the artisan's skill lies.

Essence Design&Craft

The purity of materials is the root of cross-media design, and the Essence Craft Lab has successively used different materials such as bamboo, ceramics, glass, and stone to

Combining primitive appearances with each other, matching the essence of things from textures and colors, stripping away complex design origins

Reasoning, living in the essence of the medium as a home, leaves a soft and clean contemporary feel.

WOO Studio

The flexibility of bamboo and rattan attracted Wuyi Studio to start creating. To create these elegant surprises, the bamboo strips must go through smoke

Smoky adds an elegant touch, while the rattan should have an antiqued, mottled texture, using steady yet delicate coiling and smoking techniques,

only then to produce one retro-futuristic bamboo artifact after another.

Po-chu Studio

With a perfectly refreshing design and vibrant color palette, Bamboo Breakthrough successfully brings bamboo into contemporary daily life. Originating from the concept of splitting bamboo during material processing, and through the combination of weaving and dip-dyeing, the studio contrasts serene tea ware with fresh earrings to create age-transcending contemporary designs that shatter the traditional imagery of bamboo.

2nd Corner Studio

The tranquility of bamboo ware is highlighted by the slow-paced bamboo craftsmanship of Er Yu Studio, allowing the most widely used hexagonal weave to be presented in an extremely delicate manner. Every single pattern and line is impeccably positioned. The sense of order brought by this neatness allows every piece from Er Yu Studio to seamlessly blend into every corner of the home.

ArtiCollect Workshop

Leveraging various technologies within the industry, Masterpiece Workshop utilizes the color contrast between smoked bamboo and green-preserved bamboo to project a sense of dignified identity. From tea utensils to business card holders, the nodes of the bamboo stalks are intentionally selected to subtly break the order, showcasing the internalized working principles of business professionals and how they steadily advance their daily routines amidst composure.
