Cobweb weave, also known as star weave, features a radial multi-layered hexagonal star pattern and can be seen as a combination of hexagonal weaving and plain weave techniques.
Using a hexagonal base woven from hexagonal cells, a multi-layered hexagram structure is created through parallel stacking, and finally extends outward into integrated edge petals, resulting in a technique that is as structurally sound as it is beautiful—a display of understated luxury.
The base of the spiderweb weave is shaped like a hexagram, with a regular hexagonal grid in the center. As the pressing and picking of new bamboo strips continues, the hexagram is made larger and larger around the central hexagonal grid. The spiderweb weave is a variation of the hexagonal weave; the difference is that the spiderweb weave has only a single hexagonal grid in the center, whereas the hexagonal weave has multiple hexagonal grids.

Because the spiderweb weave has a tighter structure than the hexagonal weave, and the bamboo strips radiating outward in a hexagram shape create a wavy, petal-like appearance when folded back and finished, it is well-suited for use as a fruit tray. Fruit trays made using this technique are often called spiderweb trays. As a variation and foundational technique of the hexagonal weave, the spiderweb weave features a relatively ornate character.
