The 2020 Taoyuan Land Art Festival was held from September 18 to October 4 in Zhongli Dalun and Pingzhen Shuanglianpo for a duration of 17 days. With the theme "Constructing Cities," it started from the city's future, natural landscapes, and the circular economy to explore the relationship between metropolitan areas, rural areas, land, and architecture. Crossing the urban-rural boundary from a heavily urbanized core area, the festival discussed the development and transformation of Taoyuan's urban and rural landscapes across just a road's distance. Based on the developmental trajectories of these two regions, we witnessed the relationship between ecology, architecture, and humanity. This edition focuses on the theme of "bamboo," with exhibition areas divided into Zhongli Dalun and Pingzhen Shuanglianpo. Artists were invited to create installations or engage in site-specific creation based on the characteristics of the natural and cultural environment, or to collaborate with the public on co-creations. In addition, the festival explores the possibilities of integrating bamboo into living spaces and the development of the bamboo industry, creating an international cultural festival for Taoyuan. This year, 51 domestic and international artists were invited, including artists from Japan, Indonesia, and Myanmar, creating 28 groups of art installations. The Dalun exhibition area features Yuzhang Lake, Chongde Temple, and neighboring communities as the main locations for art displays, featuring a total of 9 artworks. The Shuanglianpo exhibition area covers Bunker Park, the Shimen Canal Guoling Branch leisure trail, and the National Central University area, featuring a total of 19 artworks. 1. The square geometry undergoes variation through angle transformation, shaping the organic form of the teahouse entity.
2. Utilize raw bamboo materials and artisan-like techniques to create styles integrated with nature.
Drawing on the concept of a treehouse, the teahouse is elevated on a bamboo structure in both a pure and explicit manner, conveying a sense of playfulness and the elegant leisure of swaying with the wind, transforming the teahouse into a comforting and pleasant space for the mind.

This work expresses the beauty of traditional bamboo weaving craftsmanship through a fluid spatial form, connecting past techniques with the digital space representing the future through "ties." Through free-form weaving to create varying densities of texture, it presents a space where the interior and exterior, upper and lower realms connect, converse, and flow with one another.
Supported by four sets of upright columns, the structurally resilient curved surface—maintained by the interwoven warp and weft bamboo strips—can be disassembled into different sections for individual processing and assembly, enabling precise and economical construction. This bamboo structure brought to the 2020 Taoyuan Land Art Festival a work that connects the spirit of Taiwanese craftsmanship with modernity.

Under the Wings

Living in the shelter of "Under the Wings," relax and enjoy tea, feel the gentle breeze, and bask in the natural light. This work makes full use of the material characteristics of bamboo, utilizing its natural elasticity to form the smooth curved lines of the roof. The smoked bamboo strips layered over it impart a warm hue, and together with the layered fine bamboo branches, they present the texture of wings, resembling a goose resting in the grass when viewed from a distance. In terms of overall construction, the bamboo poles are arranged horizontally and vertically, overlapping at the top into a double layer to achieve the scale and specifications of the work. The intersections of the bamboo poles are reinforced with traditional wrapping techniques supplemented by ropes to increase stability, and modern metal joints are used to connect the main structure to the steel baseplate, enhancing structural safety and durability. The semi-open tea ceremony space allows air to flow naturally inside. Please feel free to shed all your mental armor and comfortably enjoy the aroma of tea.

Fair and pleasant weather

The creative concept uses the imagery of a gentle breeze blowing continuously and slowly, utilizing the "Möbius strip" to create an endless circulating loop.
Arrange the moso bamboos side by side along the Möbius strip, bind and secure them tightly with black linen-imitated rope. The structure extends along the curved surface, supporting a perfect circular iron ring formed by connecting the center points of each bamboo.
Moving from the open outdoor area into a completely different atmosphere, wandering or lingering within the space enclosed by the bamboo pavilions, people are drawn into a psychedelic state that makes them forget time and space, forever lingering in days of gentle breezes and bright sunshine.

Floating. Bamboo

The title of the artwork is “Floating Bamboo,” and the creative concept is a "floating bamboo forest." Using bamboo as the primary material, the bamboo tubes in the artwork do not touch each other and are detached from the ground, aiming to create a lightweight, floating ambiance, as if it were a bamboo forest rising into the air. "Tensegrity" is used as the basic structural unit for this bamboo installation. The units are connected to one another to form the conceptual floating bamboo forest. Weight causes the upper half of the cantilevered and fixed artwork to form a natural curve, while allowing slight angular changes between the units, providing space for the overall deformation of the upper half. Driven by natural wind or artificial power, it exhibits a slow, gentle motion. Dynamic lighting embedded within the bamboo tubes gives the artwork a different expression at night from that during the day.

The tea gathering not only allows the body, mind, and spirit to breathe, but is also a dialogue with nature.
The port's design uses the concepts of the exterior and the interior to convey the experience brought by a tea ceremony. The outer layer is a natural presentation with reduced artificiality, as if a bamboo forest is reacting to the external environment with natural rhythms. The inner structure is a dome-shaped space constructed with bamboo weaving craftsmanship; upon entering, one can be surrounded by a tranquil, undisturbed atmosphere, much like the experiential process of a tea ceremony.
The two-layer structure expresses a transition of moods between the inside and outside, more effectively increases the stability of the overall structure, and is suitable for repeated assembly, balancing both emotional and functional needs.
