Carved to reveal a rugged texture that fully showcases the quality of bamboo fibers, and enhanced with an antiqued brushed finish, the bamboo tube is transformed by the skilled hands of the bamboo artisan into a rustic yet boldly daring bamboo candleholder. Moreover, using the natural flexibility of bamboo to shape a sleek overall silhouette, the middle section features an intricately and delicately curved butterfly-shaped rattan weave as its visual focal point, turning a few bamboo strips into a vase that showcases the upright elegance and warm texture of bamboo craftsmanship. These bamboo art pieces, ranging from ethereal to bold and avant-garde, are the work of young bamboo artist Wu Chi-min. A student of national treasure bamboo-weaving master Chang Hsien-ping, she aims to use her own hands to weave the beautiful landscapes born from the intersection of this land and daily life, and through her creations, pass on this precious craft to even more people. With a passion for hands-on creation, Wu Chi-min has a background in product design. During her studies, she audited a few craft design courses without having the opportunity to actually work with materials. It wasn't until after graduation, unable to forget the beauty of craft design, that she began interacting directly with materials. Among various bamboo art techniques, Wu Chi-min specialized in the precision weaving of bamboo and rattan. Using high-quality Makino bamboo from Fuxing, Taoyuan—known for its fine grain and strong resilience—she uses her hands to weave exquisite creations that people simply cannot put down.
