Er-Yu Studio was one of the participating exhibitors in the 2020 "Taiwan Bamboo Society x Eslite Xinyi x Green Market" event. Founded by Huang Wen-chi, the studio is renowned for its exquisitely detailed bamboo weaving craftsmanship. Literally meaning "from one corner to another," Er-Yu embraces a word where corners are stereotypically associated with being marginal and obscure. Yet, in the eyes of bamboo artist Huang Wen-chi, these corners represent the light within her heart. Her original creative intention is very simple: she hopes that every piece is created in quiet contemplation within a corner where she feels comfortable, and that every student who selects or creates a bamboo art piece from Er-Yu can take home a cherished bamboo utensil to adorn their own small space. The creator of Er-Yu possesses a rare simplicity and rustic charm. Replacing commercialism and vulgarity is an unhesitating directness, stripped of polish and ornamentation, leaving only a pure devotion to bamboo weaving that embellishes every fair-weather landscape. "Whatever comes to mind, it seems like bamboo can actually achieve it!" After years of dedicating herself to the art of bamboo weaving, Huang Wen-chi still marvels at the wonders of creation. Taking a bamboo woven box as an example, before weaving, the bamboo strips must be processed to be extremely thin, yet through overlapping, interweaving, and layering, they become exceptionally sturdy and durable. For instance, the material used for the "Wide x Narrow Triangular Weave Flat Shallow Tray" is smoked bamboo—bamboo that has been treated with high heat and dense smoke to prevent mold and insect damage.
