Background and Origin
NTUST starts with the exploration of "modern bamboo architecture," searching for appropriate construction methods and industrial components to leverage the unique workability and mechanics of bamboo, in order to present the true nature of "bamboo" as found in the natural world.Our imagined modern bamboo construction experience is like travelers riding the Alishan Forest Railway, swaying back and forth as they slowly advance, until unawares, they have entered the misty mountain peaks.
/concept
This artwork aims to present the characteristics of bamboo groves in nature swaying with the wind, bending without breaking. It echoes the journey of travelers riding the forest railway, swaying back and forth all the way into the land of clouds.
Method
The bamboo structure is roasted and bent, suspended in the air with unedged, streamlined volumes that vaguely reflect the forms of birds, swimming fish, and floating clouds in the mountain forest. Metal buckles secure the bamboo structure, arranged in the pattern of Alishan's characteristic zigzag railway lines. On the bodies of the birds and fish, the path into the mountains is carved, capturing the spirit of heaven and earth nurturing all living things.
