The over-one-under-one checkered weaving technique results in a grid-like pattern on the woven surface. As the most fundamental bamboo weaving technique, the checkered weave is frequently used in the form of bamboo woven panels on the sides of baskets.<\/span><\/p>\n

The bamboo strips used in the checkerboard weaving technique are interlaced following an over-one, under-one rule, which is known as \"over-one, under-one.\" Because checkerboard weaving consists of a woven surface formed by vertical and horizontal bamboo strips, folding it upward into a three-dimensional shape results in a cubic form, making it suitable as a base for storage boxes such as garment trunks.<\/span><\/p>\n

The over-one-under-one technique is the easiest way to weave bamboo panels. It includes checkered weaving, plain weaving, and twill weaving, all of which have obvious and repetitive patterns. According to a survey on the difficulty of passing down bamboo crafts, checkered weaving has a difficulty rating of 1 out of 5 and is considered a bamboo weaving technique that even kindergarten children can learn. It is quick to master and fast to produce, which can rapidly build the learner's confidence.<\/p>\n

However, open-work weaving techniques such as square plaiting and hexagonal plaiting depend for their success on whether the squares or spaces are neat and even.<\/span>Because grid weaving differs from the other two techniques of twill weaving\u2014diagonal twill and plain weave\u2014in that at least one direction of the bamboo strips is tightly adjacent and can be aligned. The bamboo strips in grid weaving have spaces between them in both the vertical and horizontal directions, making the structure relatively loose and the bamboo strips prone to shifting. Therefore,When weaving, controlling the force applied to the bamboo strips is the key to neatness.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although square-plaiting is one of the simplest bamboo weaving techniques, its looser structure actually makes the uniformity of the squares and the cleanliness of the split bamboo elements that are scrutinized even more closely when selling square-woven bamboo baskets. In fact, the true difficulty of square-woven bamboo ware lies in whether the finishing edge is tight and firm.<\/span><\/p>\n
