Kueichow Bamboo Association

How do we know if this species existed here in the past? We can know through the mother tongue. Fuxing District in Taoyuan City is currently Taiwan's main production area for moso bamboo and is also a settlement of the Atayal people. From the Atayal language spoken by the elders, it is possible to determine which bamboos are invasive species and which are native to the area, because only bamboo species that have existed for a long time are present in the native language spoken by the people.

Located in Taoyuan, the Kwei-Chuh Association focuses on the preservation of Atayal indigenous culture, bamboo craftsmanship, and local materials. In tribal life, bamboo is not merely a material; it also carries daily utensils, architecture, tools, and cultural memory.

Through craftsmanship, teaching, and product development, the association reorganizes and shares the use of bamboo in indigenous culture. From material acquisition to creation, every piece is connected to the local environment and living experience.

The Guizhu Association makes bamboo craftsmanship not only a matter of preservation, but also a method of cultural transmission. Through contemporary design and hands-on practice, bamboo materials and the wisdom of Atayal life can be understood by more people.
