#: The Forest of Oscillation
Concept
The origin of the place name Zhujiqi comes from the fact that the area was entirely hilly terrain with many bamboo forests. After being cleared and cultivated, bamboo stumps were left everywhere, hence it was called Zhutouqi (Bamboo Stump Ridge). The floor paving is inspired by bamboo joints.
Zigzag railway → Preliminary device layout plan
Zhuchi Station is a turning point → the light and shadow changes created by the density of the bark in the installation symbolize the emotional transition.
Zhuxi Station is the dividing point between the Alishan Railway's flatland line and mountain line → a device from the city to the forest.
# Review
The artwork aims to present the surrounding landscape, especially the fascinating undulating hills next to Zhuchi. I noticed that the piece incorporates mountain shapes in its design, but using bamboo segments for the entire exterior makes the work too heavy, which is quite different from our imagination of bamboo. Visually, it feels somewhat heavy and intricate. We can rethink what we are trying to do right now and what we currently have, trying to simplify every decision as much as possible. Finally, look back at the overall aesthetic and weigh it to avoid excessive complexity and clutter. Of course, you can use intricate techniques, but that doesn't necessarily mean it has to be heavy and cluttered. Because it will be placed on a vehicle platform, having a heavy object sitting on top of something that is empty underneath—that sensation can be further fine-tuned. (Fan Cheng-Tsung)
